One at a Time: "Car Wheels on a Gravel Road" (1998) by Lucinda Williams

#304 "Car Wheels On a Gravel Road" (1998) by Lucinda Williams

Lucinda Williams' "Car Wheels On a Gravel Road" is an album that sounds like it has been around for decades.

The track listing is made up of instant classics, like the title track, "Right in Time," "Greenville," and "Lake Charles," songs that walk the thin lines of blues, country, and rock. There are songs about love and personal relationships, with a lyricism to match her great father's poetry.

I think that this album features more complexity and a fuller sound than "Bookends," but never reaches the heights of either "Tapestry" or "Tea for the Tillerman."

1. "Tapestry" (1971) by Carole King
2. "Tea for the Tillerman" (1970) by Cat Stevens
3. "Car Wheels On a Gravel Road" (1998) by Lucinda Williams
4. "Bookends" (1968) by Simon and Garfunkel
5. "The Bends" (1995) by Radiohead
6. "Stop Making Sense" (1984) by The Talking Heads
7. "Honky Chateau" (1972) by Elton John
8. "Burnin'" (1973) by The Wailers
9. "The Rolling Stones Now!" (1965) by The Rolling Stones
10. "The Slim Shady LP" (1999) by Eminem
